THE RIOT GROUP Since 1997 The Riot Group have brought uncompromised intensity to contemporary theatre. Tightly knit and fiercely committed, this small theatre ensemble have produced a string of original theatre pieces which combine absurd comedy and powerful politics with a confrontational acting style.

were all awarded the coveted Edinburgh Fringe First award and Herald Angel award, while Pugilist Specialist was also the winner of The Scotsman's 2003 "Best of the Fringe Firsts" award.

All Riot Group performance texts are written by Adriano Shaplin with roles tailored to each individual actor. Each production is collaboratively directed and designed by the cast.

Currently, The Riot Group is composed of five company members: Adriano Shaplin (writer/artistic director), Stephanie Viola, Drew Friedman, Paul Schnabel, and Maria Shaplin.

The Riot Group is dedicated to maintaining an ongoing ensemble while fostering relationships with like-minded organizations and artists.
